Win wonderful Wonka products to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie!

Here at the Stateside Candy Co. we love weird and wonderful products. From spreadable marshmallow Fluff to bacon flavoured popcorn, we don't shy away from the stranger products from across the pond. And so our hero has to be Roald Dahl's fantastically eccentric candy creator Willy Wonka.

He first appeared in the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which the illusive inventor offered a tour around his factory to the lucky few who discovered golden tickets in their chocolate bars. In 1971 Mel Stuarts amazing movie hit the screen, starring Gene Wilder as the wonderful Willy Wonka. Kids and adults alike drooled over the opening sequence of chocolate, sang along with the magical music and dreamt of entering the chocolate room, where everything is edible!

We're not the only one's excited about this amazing anniversary, as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were testing out some unusual products on ITV's This Morning today. They got the chance to try out some cool chocolate machines, and even tried some of our Marshmallow Fluff - which Phil particularly liked on his toast! They also featured a giant gummy bear, which you can get your hands on right here!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the film, and to celebrate we're launching a competition! We want you to show us your 'pure imagination' by creating your own unique Wonka-inspired product. Grab some inspiration from our huge range of Wonka products; from the new Carameldelicious bar to Rainbow Nerds and everything in-between! Would you reinvent the Wonka bar or create a brand new type of candy? Give us a description of your own Wonka product and the one that makes our mouths water the most will win an awesome prize!

This wonderful Wonka goodie bag includes a copy of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the 2005 Johnny Depp re-imagining Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on DVD, along with plenty of Wonka candy from our website!

Post your ideas in the comments below to be in with a chance of winning. And remember, be as imaginative as possible - we'd love to see pictures, creative descriptions or maybe even a homemade commercial. Good luck!

Competition Terms and Conditions:
Open to UK residents only.
You must be 16 years old and over.
Americansweets.co.uk's decision is final.
No cash alternative is offered.
Closing date 30/04/2011

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Lucky Charms

While St. Patrick's Day was once a simple religious feast day, it has been transformed over the years into a huge celebration. And who wouldn't want to celebrate when the traditions include wearing green, watching a parade and drinking Guinness? Wearing a shamrock and painting yourself green might be a good way to show your appreciation for Paddy in the States, but we've found some great recipe ideas you wont even need to leave the house to create!
If you want to keep it simple why not treat yourself to a bowl of Lucky the Leprechaun's Lucky Charms (or maybe a Lucky Charms Cereal Bar!), while reading a bit about how they were created right here? And to help you we've taken £1.00 off our 1lb box of Charms for one day only, so grab a box before midnight tonight! Or why not try decorating your cakes and cookies (or whatever else you like!) with some marbits from your cereal.

And for those of you really looking to make your friends green with envy at your baking skills, try out these Lucky Charms Crispy Treats and amazing Little Lucky Whoopie Pies recipes. We'd love to hear from you if you've tried out any of these recipes, or created some of your own! Send us your pictures and we'll pop them on the blog for everyone to see...happy St. Patrick's Day!

Can candy cure your nerves? Kate Middleton certainly thinks so...

We all have different ways of dealing with our nerves, but while most women would be watching their weight in the months leading up to the big day, others are using it as an excuse to indulge. And Princess-to-be Kate Middleton is no different as she reportedly snacks on candy to calm her nerves.

Marrying a Prince certainly seems like a nerve-racking situation to us, but we're not sure we'd be reaching for her favourites, Haribo Starmix, to keep us calm! Perhaps she's simply testing the sweets for her wedding menu?

Would you be snacking on Starmix to calm your nerves or is there another sweet treat you'd prefer? Let us know whether you like to indulge in chocolate to keep you calm or candy to cure your jitters in the comments below!

And we thought we were obsessive about American food....

Now we like to think that we are just crazy about American food. In fact we are quite literally obsessive about those yummy goodies from across the pond! So surely there is nobody out there who could possibly be more obsessive than us right? Urrm actually no.

Gaz walked into our Aldershot store the other day to stock up on Lucky Charms & Cap'n Crunch cereal which is in no way extraordinary, (Apart from the fact he really stocked up in a big way!), and whilst paying for his stash of goodies he mentioned that he was massive Lucky Charms & Cap'n Crunch fan to which we replied 'yes us as well'! To our surprise he then proceeded to roll up his sleeve and trouser leg, (At which point we did get concerned and put security on high alert..), and then he showed us exactly how big a fan he was as you will see below:

As you can see we think it would be difficult for anyone to claim that they are a bigger fan than Gaz! If you think you are the bigger fan then we want to know about it! Gaz we salute you sir!

Many thanks to Gaz for being such a good sport and also give a shout out to Cutthroat Tattoos for being crazy enough to apply the tattoo in the first place.

The answer to the riddle is cakes on the griddle!

It's that time of year again when we heat up our frying pans and gather in the kitchen to see who's best at flipping! Shrove Tuesday (sometimes known as Fat Tuesday) is traditionally the day when all the fatty foods from the cupboards are used up ready for Lent, and what better way to make use of these ingredients than making pancakes?

Over here we're more keen on very thin crepes, but this year why not try something a bit different by making some fluffy American style pancakes. We stock a great range of mixes, from Aunt Jemima to Bisquick, as well as a great range of syrups and toppings. And if you're looking for something new and exciting, why not try adding some baking morsels like the Nestle Milk Chocolate and Peanut Butter ones? And don't forget the syrups! From Hershey's to traditional pancake syrup, it's always good to drown your pancakes in rich, glistening liquid. Or why not try something really unusual and add some Marshmallow Fluff?

Whatever you choose to add to your pancakes, we hope you have a great day. Don't forget to send us your recipes, emails and wackiest ideas so we can all try them out! Check out this recipe for Caramel Apple Pancakes from the queen of hot cakes - Aunt Jemima.

Cupcakes In a Cone? Really? Watch the video and found out how...

We like the look of this Betty Crocker recipe! Although your teeth may well fall out half way through eating it we would love to know if you have made it and if it tastes as good as it looks!

They're always after me Lucky Charms...

Whether you remember tucking into a bowl of sugary treats for breakfast as a kid or see them constantly on American TV shows, Lucky Charms hold a special place in the hearts of Stateside customers. But how much do you really know about this unique cereal?

Created by General Mills back in the sixties, when a team of products designers were asked to do something exciting with either Wheaties or Cheerios, they began their life as a bowl of those cheery little o’s with Brach’s Circus Peanuts mixed in! Using this idea for sweet and savoury mixed together, the team were inspired by charm bracelets to make their cereal appeal to kids, and when that didn’t work they sugar coated them! Over the years Lucky the Leprechaun has added and removed new marshmallows (or marbits!) to the mix, with pots of gold, moons, stars, hearts, clovers, horses and many more making appearances.

This mix of sugary cereal and sweet marbits didn’t go down well in the UK market, but never fear as we stock a huge range of Lucky Charms products! From individual cereal pots, to lip balms, cereal bars and of course boxes of the original cereal in a range of sizes. And if that’s not good enough for you we even stock Chocolate Lucky Charms for those special occasions! So what are you waiting for? Get your hands on a pot of gold Lucky Charms now!
